5 reasons we waited to find out gender.

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

This isn't a post about what's right or wrong. Learning your little one's gender is a personal choice! I was really on the fence when it came to deciding & my husband was fine either way. I went in search of internet advice and landed on waiting. Here's why:

  1. Life actually has very few "surprises". Of course none of us have a crystal ball for the future but there are a lot of things these days we know ahead of time.... especially when it comes to big life moments.

  2. Removes any and all commentary from outside parties. Once people know your baby's gender they usually can't help but share what kind of parent that will make you. "Oh, you are having a girl? Get ready for your husband to be a daddy's girl". This is a great way to eliminate one of the many onslaughts of opinions fired your way during pregnancy.

  3. You remove the temptation to gender out on baby clothing. I'll admit it... I adore cute new outfits & clothes. If I had known I was having a girl.... my visa bill would have rolled over and died. I bought exactly what I needed for the first few months and I'm thrilled I can reuse all of it for baby 2!

  4. This finite state of not knowing was honestly really fun. I really enjoyed wondering if it would be a girl or a boy and imaging the joy both of those scenarios would bring. You find out eventually and it was in fact the biggest surprise of my life (because I was totally wrong in my guess).

  5. It felt like everyone was in on the excitement. I honestly don't know if this last one is true... but it always seemed like everyone was invested and equally excited in knowing the gender. It was fun for everyone that we were waiting and something we could all experience at once when baby arrived.

Did you wait? Did you find out ahead of time? How did you celebrate?
